EDITOR’S NOTE

It’s been five years already, and 15 issues, since the launching of our journal! While it’s still too early to measure the impact of a journal such as ours on the advancement and transmission of knowledge in the field, we have nonetheless seen a steady increase in the number of university libraries and cultural management students joining our list of subscribers. The constant fl ow of both congratulations and manuscripts is a further sign that IJAM is in fine form.

As you know, IJAM is associated with the International Conference on Arts and Cultural Management (AIMAC), the seventh edition of which will be held in 2003. As usual, we will publish a number of the papers presented at this conference. There is an undeniable synergy between the Conference and the Journal, with the Conference nourishing IJAM and IJAM constituting an interesting forum for authors. One of the effects of this synergy is to professionalize the discipline of arts management and to foster the development of a body of knowledge that distinguishes it from other management disciplines.

Our ambition at the outset was a modest one: to publish the best articles by academics and practitioners and to cultivate closer ties between these two communities. Indeed, the voices of practitioners occupy an important place in our pages, but we would like to hear even more of those voices.

At the university level, our ongoing challenge is to serve as a vehicle for the transfer of cutting-edge knowledge to decision-makers in the cultural field. Faced with the pressure exerted by the combined forces of globalization, competition and technology, cultural organizations must be able to rely on enlightening research and studies.

On the occasion of our fifth anniversary, I wish to thank all our readers and contributors for your continued support.
